Hello, Moonee Ponds!
I’m Matt Rossi – the proud owner of the newly established local bagelry, Hole in the Wall. We’re located just off Puckle Street at 5 Norwood Crescent, where we serve a selection of freshly made-to-order bagels, Seven Seeds coffee, cold-pressed juices, and homemade treats.
While Hole in the Wall has only been part of the Moonee Ponds community since late 2022, I’ve been a local for much longer. Over my 20+ years living in Moonee Ponds, I have grown fond of our lively suburb. I’m sure you’ll agree we’re lucky to have such a wonderful community in a good location filled with quality restaurants, pubs, and bars.
Food has always been an important part of my life. I grew up cooking with my Mum and Nana with influences from my Maltese and Italian heritage. As I got older, I became an avid hunter for finding new and interesting places to eat – and with Melbourne as my backyard, there was never any shortage of culinary adventures.
Backed by my love of food, flavour, and family, I was motivated to create something of my own in the suburb I grew up. While the inspiration for Hole in the Wall’s range reaches global, its roots are firmly planted in my hometown of Moonee Ponds. Now, I’m excited to share it with my local community and travelling food lovers alike.
My vision for Hole in the Wall was to create a flavoursome and enjoyable experience for others. And our curated range of bagels does just this. We are a small shop with a small footprint, and most describe our environment as welcoming and homely. ‘Hole in the Wall’ was the perfect way to describe what we offer and what we are, so choosing a name was realy quite simple!
You’ll find 11 bagel options on our menu, each named after its country of inspiration. The ‘Norway’ is a classic, filled with smoked salmon, red onion, capers and dill cream cheese. Our ‘Italy’ is a popular choice, layered with ham, sopresso salami, prosciutto, provolone cheese, antipasto mix, lettuce, mayonnaise and finished with HITW housemade sugo. The‘Malta’ is made up of homemade meatballs in signature HITW housemade sugo with melted provolone cheese, and there’s also the local fan favourite, the ‘America’, packed with buttermilk fried chicken, melted cheddar, lettuce and HITW special sauce.
Each day, new and returning customers visit us, and we’re grateful for every single one of them – even the four-legged ones! We’ve had customers travel as far as Dandenong and Safety Beach just to try our menu – what an incredible feeling! Our customers are from all walks of life, and it’s a pleasure to share and celebrate their passion for good food and great coffee.
We are located at 5 Norwood Crescent and open seven days a week from 7 am to 3 pm Monday to Friday and 8 am to 3 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
If you’re looking for good feels and great flavours, I’ll see you at Hole in the Wall!
