Tell me about Palace Cinemas, what is its history?

BZ: Palace Cinemas was established back in 1965 by my father, Antonio Zeccola. It started as a single cinema in Melbourne and has since grown to become one of Australia’s leading independent cinema chains. We’re known for our commitment to showcasing a diverse range of films, from mainstream blockbusters to independent and foreign films, providing a unique cinematic experience for our audiences and our expert hospitality (have you seen our wine list?).

Why did you choose to open a cinema in Moonee Ponds?

BZ: Moonee Ponds is a vibrant and culturally rich suburb with a strong community spirit. We listened to our customer’s desires and recognised the need for a premium cinema experience in Melbourne’s West. Palace Penny Lane Cinema aims to bridge that gap by delivering quality films in a luxurious setting.

What is special about Palace Penny Lane Cinema in Moonee Ponds compared to other cinemas? Key features?

BZ:  Penny Lane Cinema offers a unique and luxurious cinematic experience that sets it apart from other cinemas in the area. One of its key features is its intimate and stylish atmosphere, providing patrons with a comfortable and sophisticated setting to enjoy their movie-going experience. We also take pride in our curated selection of films, including exclusive premieres, retrospectives and our international film festivals, catering to diverse tastes and interests. Additionally, our commitment to exceptional customer service ensures that every visit to Penny Lane is memorable and enjoyable for our guests.

What can we expect to see at Palace Penny Lane Cinema in the future? 

BZ:  We’re always looking for ways to innovate and enhance the cinematic experience for our patrons. In the future, we plan to introduce exciting new programming initiatives, including more immersive screenings, filmmaker Q&A sessions and community events. One of the most anticipated features is our rooftop cinema, due later in the year, which will provide a unique outdoor viewing experience under the stars. This addition will further elevate Palace Penny Lane as a premier destination for cinema lovers in Moonee Ponds and beyond.
